Antiochos succeeded his father Demetrios II as a teenager alongside his mother Cleopatra Thea, after whose death in 120 BC he became embroiled in war with his half-brother Antiochos IX, with whom in 116 BC he divided the Seleucid realm of Syria. He was a famous bon viveur, whose parties becamse legendary. He was murdered by one of his ministers and succeeded by Antiochos IX.
