Fineware depas of pale beige clay with dark red-brown paint. Misfired in places, and faded and worn in others. Interior of cup painted a dark red. On the exterior, two parallel lines on the handles and to the lip, followed by a series of vertical lines running around the vessel. This is broken by a central panel either side, with the ‘wigglies’ motif. Below, a series of concentric circles around the main body of the vessel. From the foot, vertical rays point upwards. On the foot is a thin red line, and another concentric circle appears on the underside of the foot. Colour: paint 10R 5/8 (red), 2.5YR 3/6 (dark red), fabric 10YR 7/4 (very pale brown). Labelled on base Rhodes 1900, in group with X0678, X0679. Reconstructed from fragments in places but otherwise in good condition. This piece was given to the University of Birmingham by Archdeacon Hopkinson.
