This plaque from the National Taiwan University features a large central motif of the University's emblem. The emblem is made up of several elements and is meant to reflect the motto surrounding it, 'Integrity, Dilligence, Patriotism and Philanthropy'. The Fu bell is a reminder of enlightenment and discipline whereas as the palm represents growth and nurturing. The plum blossom against the chosen colour scheme and patterned border is designed to represent the meeting of the spiritual and cultural ideals of the nation. This plaque was given as a gift to the Vice Chancellor Michael Thompson in 1996 on the occasion of his visit to the National Taiwan University.
