BIRRC-D0492.jpg

Large carved male wooden figure, standing holding what appears to be two staffs, dressed in ornate regalia.

This piece was part of a larger bequest of items from the estate of Elnora Ferguson. Mrs Ferguson and her husband worked in Southern Nigeria during the 1960s and 1970s and collected various items, including sculpture and painting. These items were all bequeathed to what was the Centre for West African Studies (now Department of African Studies and Anthropology).
