BIRRC-P0906.2.jpg

Cavity magnetron designed to fit end of 20th century domestic microwave cooker. Frequency probably about 2.5 GHz (wavelength 1.2 cm) and power 600 W. Compact design with the magnetic field produced by strong ceramic magnets built close around the anode block. The high voltage supply and cathode heater are in the box at the bottom of the image. The microwaves are delivered to the cooking chamber via the metal stub projecting through an insulator from the top of the magnetron. This example has been cut open to show the interior. It shows the reduced amount of copper in the anode block, non-cylindrical cavities and how the cathode wires and output lead are brought out along the axis. The coated cathode is missing.
