Description: Obverse: Head of Maximian, wearing radiate crown and beard, draped and cuirassed, facing r. Reverse: Emperor, in military attire, standing facing r., holding parazonium in l. and receiving Victory on globe in r. from Jupiter, standing facing l., holding sceptre in l.; S in field, between figures. Inscriptions: Obverse: INP C M H MHXINIHNVS AVC (Imperator Caesar Marcus Aurelius Maximian Augustus). Reverse: CONCORDIH MILITVV (Harmony of the Soldiers). In Exergue: XXI Bibliography: RIC V 607 var. Notes: According to RIC, the XXI in the exergue of the reverse and S in the field of the reverse are mintmarks (officina) indicating Kyzikos. As opposed to RIC, this coin type have a variant legend on the obverse (VAL does not occur) and the bust is cuirassed as well as draped. |
