This Kente cloth has been woven on a man's double-heddle loom. Kente is an interwoven, Ghanain cloth produced particularly in the Ashanti region where it is worn on occasions of extreme importance. This cloth has been made from fourteen warp-striped strips (7 cm in width) in black, red, yellow, white and fawn, using machine-spun imported yarn. The weft is black with interim Hent yellow weft stripes 'veiled' through the predominance of the warp. It was collected in the 1920s/30s and was presented to the Danford Collection by Sister Evelyn Bellamy in 1969.
