This elongated dance mask has been made in painted wood and finished off with a fringe of raphia around its neck. The Edo people of Nigeria are divided into specific masquerade societies, meaning that these masks play a central role in spiritual ceremonies, with masks such as these meaning to represent a certain spirit body. It was presented to the Danford Collection by Dr. Robert Bradbury.
