This clock is constructed from a commemorative pewter plate. It depicts several scenes including animals, people and buildings representative of Malaysian culture. The name Royal Selangor was established in 1992, following the receival of a royal warrant from the Sultan of Selangor in 1979. This prestigious business was originally established as a small workshop in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, producing small household items out of tin. Following a decline in demand for ceremonial pewterware during the 1930s, the company began producing European style items for the British, marking a turning point in the company’s growth. Mass international export began in the 1970s and the company even diversified into areas such as jewellery. This item was given as a gift to the Vice Chancellor.
