One of three objects returned by the Army to the Lodge family following Raymond Lodge's death on the Western Front in Flanders in 1915. The hip flask is silver plate, with a screw and click cap. There are some slight dents and scratches but no major damage, and it is inscribed as above in copperplate script. Following Raymond's death in the trenches, Sir Oliver Lodge and Lady Lodge consulted mediums as a way of contacting their son. As a result of these meetings, Sir Oliver Lodge wrote his book 'Raymond, or Life and Death'. The book begins with an epic collective memorial to Raymond with additions by both his friends and family and also contains the letters he wrote from the front. The book serves as a three part biography of Raymond, discussing his early life, his afterlife and Lodge's beliefs concerning the afterlife. This flask was given to Ken White, a family friend, by Oliver Lodge's daughter Norah Lodge as belonging to her father.

Inscriptions / Translations:  'Raymond Lodge'
