Attic black-figure fineware amphora of orange-red clay. Misfired. Black-glazed exterior with two reserved metope panels either side. There is a red line to the top of the metopes, two parallel lines at the bottom, and a thick red line to the bottom of the foot. At the top of each panel run a series of ivy leaves. Side A shows four youths conversing beneath eight ivy leaves, dressed in cloaks and chitons decorated with red bands and white dotted flowers. Side B shows three red-haired youths exercising naked, wearing garlands around their necks. All three are fat-bottomed in the komast style. The first youth pats the second youth on the behind; he turns around in surprise and raises his hand. The third youth looks on. Colour: fabric 5YR 6/8 (reddish yellow), paint 10YR 2/1 (black)-glossy, paint (red) 10R 4/4 (weak red) and 6/6 (dark red). Complete and in good condition.
