Description:  Together with Picasso and Braque, Léger was one of the major figures in the development of Cubism. This picture, however, dates from a later period, when his obsession with semi-abstract machinery was tempered by a representational interest in living things - in this case two pieces of fruit. The classical design shows much cunning in the manipulation of colour and space.
