Description: This scene was painted on the spot and it is dated the 11th October, 1895. Boudin was born nearby on the Normandy coast and he painted its beaches and harbours throughout his career. This is a more solitary scene than many, with a single distant fisherwoman under a typically lively and spacious sky. Inscriptions / Translations: Signed, inscribed and dated l.r.: E. Boudin 95/Trouville/ 11 Octobre 95 Notes: Exhibited: Arthur Tooth and Sons Ltd, 'Recent Aquisitions', 1950 (no.9); 'French Impressionism: Treasures from the Midlands', Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham, 1991, pp. 38-9; 'Boudin at Trouville', Burrell Collection, Glasgow, 1992, cat. no. 47; 'Eugène Boudin en Normandie', Musée Eugène Boudin, Honfleur, 1998, cat. no. 204; 'Into the Light', Royal Albert Memorial Museum, 1 December - 10 March 2012, and then Compton Verney, 30 March - 10 June 2012 |
