Description:  Obverse. Head of the emperor

Reverse. Full length portrait of the goddess Ceres. Ceres is holding ears of corn, a poppy and a torch. Ceres was used by Nero to depict the prosperity of Rome under his rule. The long list of titles on this coin shows how the early emperors accumulated republican titles to justify their far reaching powers while still working within an officially republican framework.
