Name:  Theodoros Gabras
Brief biography:  A Byzantine general and semi-imdependent petty ruler of Chaldia.
Nationality:  Byzantine
Date of death:  1099

Theodore was an eleventh-century Byzantine general who recaptured Trebizond and its surrounding area (Chaldia) from the Seljuks. He ruled the area as a semi-independent doux, even striking coinage independently of the capital. Nominally under the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos, Theodore and Alexios were hostile towards each other, with Alexios holding Theodore's son, Gregory, hostage. Theodore was captured in battle against Turkish forces in 1099 and subsequently executed. He is considered a martyr and a saint in the orthodox church.
