Brief biography:  Roman politician, a great-nephew of Julius Cæsar and one of his heirs with Octavian but an ally of Marc Antony until after the battle of Actium; he then served Octavian well into the Principate.

Lucius Pinarius Scarpus was a great-nephew of Julius Cæsar, first mentioned in ancient sources as one of Cæsar's heirs after his assassination, who, along with Pedius, gave it to Octavian. Scarpus became an ally of Marc Antony in the subsequent wars of the Roman Republic until the final stages. He was granted command military command of Cyrenaica, which involved controlling the mint in Cyrene, issuing coins depicting Marc Antony's face and Scarpus' name. He switched sides to Octavian after Actium, and continued to serve him as moneyer in Cyrene into the Principate.
