Originally a tax collector, Theodosios was set up as Emperor by troops revolting against Anastasios II in 715. After a brief time as Emperor, Theodosios III was deposed by Leo III in 717 during the Arab siege of Constatinople. Instead of being killed or mutilated, Theodosios and his son were made to become monks.
