Faustina was the wife of the Emperor Antoninus Pius, the adopted son of and heir to Hadrian, Faustina's aunt's husband. She was also a great-great niece of the Emperor Trajan, being a granddaughter of the latter's niece, Matidia. She was remembered after her death as a pius, charitable woman and a model wife and empress, who was deified by her husband after her death. Through her daughter, Faustina Minor, she was also the mother-in-law of Marcus Aurelius and grandmother of Commodus. |
