Name:  Severus II
Brief biography:  Part of the second Tetrarchy.
Nationality:  Roman
Occupation:  Emperor
Period of rule:  305-307
Date of death:  307
Place of death:  Tres Tabernae

Severus was a friend and ally of the Tetrarch Galerius, who ensured that Severus became Caesar to Constantius I in the West in 305, on the retirement of Diocletian and Maximian. When Constantius died in 306, Severus was opposed by Constantine, the son of Constantius, but this was able to be massaged into Constantine being acknowledged as Caesar to Severus. The declaration of Maxentius, son of Maximian, as Augustus with the backing of his now unretired father proved to be more difficult to manage, however. Severus marched against Maxentius in Italy, but was defeated and executed in 307.
