Description:  Obverse: Head of Claudius, wearing laureated veil and bearded, facing r. Reverse: Emperor, veiled and draped, seated facing l. in curule chair, raising r. hand and holding sceptre in l.

Inscriptions:  Obverse: DIVC CLRVDLO OPTIRO L...P (Divine Claudius, Best Imperator). Reverse: REVΠIɛS DVIIMV-RVY MERITHDVM (To the Retirement of the Best [of Emperors]). In Exergue: RP

Notes:  According to RIC, the RP in the exergue of the reverse are mintmarks indicating Rome. This coin could be a commemorative issue for Claudius II Gothicus after his death (RIC V.I 299 - var. mintmark) or part of the Constantinian commemorative series (RIC VII 109 - var. obverse). Coin has degraded since photograph from 1980s attached to this record.
