This Hausa cloth is woven on a single-heddle women's loom. The heddle refers to the set of string loops which create the gap through which the weft is passed. Therfore looms where only one set of warps are attatched to a heddle are titled single heddle looms. This cloth demonstrates an open-work pattern, showing a plain white background covered in small black hatching to create the effect of stripes. It was presented by to the Danford Collection by Sister Evelyn Bellamy in 1969.
