Helena was the mother of the Emperor Constantine I, though her status in relation to Constantine's father, Constantius I, is unclear. In numerous versions of Helena's life, she was a devout Christian who traveled to Paletine and miraculously found the True Cross. It is for this act that she is remembered as a saint in the various Orthodox Churches, Catholic Church, Armenian Apostolic Church, Ethiopian Church, and those Protestant Churches that have saints or venerated holy people. |
