Name:  Philip of Savoy
Brief biography:  Lord of Piedmont from 1282 till 1334, but also Prince of Achaia through marriage to Isabelle of Villehardouin between 1301 and 1307, until driven out by a revolt.
Nationality:  Frankish
Occupation:  Lord
Date of birth:  1278
Period of rule:  1282-1334 (Piedmont), 1301-1307 (Achaia)
Date of death:  1334-09-25

Son of Thomas III of Piedmont, Philip succeeded his father as lord there in 1282, but moved to Greece in order to marry Isabelle de Villehardouin, Princess of Achaia, in 1301. His rule was unpopular, and in 1304 his barons forced him to accept a parliament, after which a peasant revolt further damaged his credibility. He was removed from office by King Charles II of Naples, his suzerain, in 1307 and returned to Piedmont. After Isabella's death he married again and had twelve children, of whom the eldest, James, succeeded him.
