Name: Thorburn, Philip Brief biography: A great collector of ancient and mediaeval coins from the regions of Iran and India. |
|
We have been unable to find any further information on Philip Thorburn other than that he was an avid collector of ancient and mediaeval coins from the (broad) regions of Iran and India. He was an active member of the Royal Numismatic Society and in correspondence with several publishing academics. He amassed what must have been an increadibly impressive collection: collectively, 1,000s of coins from his collection now reside (at least) in the Ashmolean, Fitzwilliam, British Museum and the Barber. The Barber's portion all come through Philip Whitting. |
