Date of birth:  242
Period of rule:  260
Date of death:  260

Saloninus was born in 242 AD, the second son of Gallienus and Salonina. After his elder brother, Valerian II, died in 258, Gallienus made Saloninus Caesar to replace him, leaving him in Gaul while he marched to the Balkans to defeat usurpers in the region with the praetorian prefect Silvanus as his protector. In 260, Silvanus ordered the general Postumus to give up some plunder taken from a German warband, prompting Postumus' men to revolt against him. Gallienus was engaged elsewhere, and as a last, desperate, attempt, Saloninus' men proclaimed him as Emperor to attempt to tempt Postomus' men to their side. Failing, Saloninus was beseiged in Colonia Agrippina, where he was murdered by Postomus men after a month of siege, leaving Postumus free to proclaim the Gallic Empire.
