These three caps are all examples of Hausa clothing. The patterned one is made from cotton embroidered in eight colours, including green, yellow, white and red. This type of cap is known as 'k'ube' in Hausa which is a reference to ostentation. The cap is finished off with a decorative knob at the apex of the crown. The two white cotton caps are of the 'marafiya' type (Hausa) and were collected in Ghana. All three were presented to the Danford collection by Sister Evelyn Bellamy in 1969.
