The Tuareg are a Berber ethnic group, descended from desert peoples of the Sahara, who today mostly inhabit parts of Western and Northern Africa. These sandals are typically demonstrative of Tuareg decorative arts. Much Tuareg art revolves around jewellery in particular but leather work is also important. These sandals have thick leather soles with a coloured, thonged decoration crossing over the front part.
