A Wheatstone bridge is a very common device for measuring electrical resistances. This is a high quality instrument for use as a standard at its time. The controls are all on a black bakelite panel on the top of a wooden box. The ratio arms of 1000, 100, 10, 1 are selected with plugs. The main arm has four rotary switches (with wiping contacts all exposed) giving resistances of 1 to 9999 ohms. The unknown X is mounted between two clamping screws. There are tapping keys with locking levers for the battery B and galvanometer G.
