Mr Briggs stands on a table in a disordered room; his fishing line knocks objects from the mantel-piece. Mrs Briggs and their two children survey the disarray with varied expressions. Notes: A slightly different version, oblong, with three children instead of two, and other changes, was published in Punch, vol. XIX, 1850, p. 78, with the title Our Friend Briggs contemplates a Day's Fishing, and reprinted in Pictures of Life and Character by John Leech, First Series, p.30. A coloured lithograph of the sma esubject was published by Bradbury and Evans with the title Mr briggs contemplates a day's Fishing and practises with his running tackle! in the series entitled Mr Briggs and his Doings.
