Nearly full-face portrait, turned slightly to the right, wearing a suit of armour richly damascened with gold arabesques, the ribbon of the Garter and white lace ruff; his fair hair combed back from the forehead; red curtain background. Inscriptions / Translations: Signed left bacground with monogram of 'I.O' Notes: Painted c. 1610 and originally in the Royal Collection. Prince Henry (1594-1612) wears the ribbon of the Garter. Several related miniatures are known, including ones in the Royal Collection, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and in the Duke of Buccleuch's collection. |
