Conceived by Raphael as a tapestry design, this is one of a series featuring episodes from the lives of the saints Peter and Paul. Unlike later followers who obsessed with producing very literal reproductions, Raimondi has provided an urban setting to this version and turned the building behind St Paul into a ruin.
