This print depicts an almost identical picturesque scene to Richard Wilson’s painting (Inv. No. 37.11), but with the addition of a small boating party. Morris specialised in landscape and architectural engraving and his printmaking skills can be seen in the highly detailed rendering of the landscape. The inclusion of the small boat and figures enabled contemporary viewers to relate to the scene. It perhaps also helped compensate for the absence of the subtle colours seen in Wilson’s brilliantly painted sky when translated into a black and white print .
