Flat-backed amulet of the god Bes in profile playing a tambourine or drum. He strides forward with his left leg and an animal tail can be seen hanging behind him. A suspension lug is attached at the top. Bibliography: For further discussion of amulets, see: Notes: Amulets depicting the god Bes first appeared during the 18th Dynasty, although the iconography of Bes can be seen in earlier Middle Kingdom ivory knives/wands. Amulets of Bes remained popular into the Roman Period and exhibit a number of variations. |
