Fineware depas of orange-red clay, with glossy black glaze and thick white and dark red paint. The front of the pot was squashed in during firing, so the vessel is not circular. It has very thin curved handles set horizontally at the top of the body. The handles, most of the body and the foot are black, with a small reserved area at the base with a thin black line in it. The interior is also black. Against this background, Side A shows a top band of an incised tongue pattern, followed by thin bands of white and red paint. Some of the white is an extension of the trailing vine trellis that hangs from the red band. There are six schematic grape clusters with two vine leaves attached. Side B shows two dotted parallel lines separated by a thin incised line. Handmade fine to semi-fine ware, thinnish walls, yellowish red clay. Colour: paint 10YR 3/1 (very dark grey) but shiney so hard to match, 7.5YR 8/2 (pinkish white), 10YR 8/6 (yellow), 7.5YR 6/8 (reddish yellow), damaged areas 5YR 5/2 (reddish grey), fabric 10R 5/6 (red), 2.5YR 5/6 (red). Complete and in fair condition. Abrasions and pitting to the surface, especially to Side B. Deep cut (but no break) to Side A beside the handle.

Inscriptions / Translations:  Labelled on base, ‘Etruscan Depas Hancock’
