BIRRC-D0421.jpg

This piece has been woven from machine-spun yarn on a man's double-heddle loom. There are 18 warp-faced strips, each 10 cm wide, in maroon, purple, blue, green, red, yellow and white. There are also weft-faced blocks, striped orange, yellow, light blue, dark blue, green, brown, purple, maroon and white, with supplementary weft-float motifs in white rayon. These supplementary motifs are based on birds, animals and zigzags. It is of a Kente type and is most likely a man’s cloth. It was presented to the Danford Collection by Sister Evelyn Bellamy in 1969.
