This Igbo textile has been woven on a single-heddle upright women's loom. Both the warp and weft are coloured in intense red-brown. It is possible that a camwood dye has been used here, camwood being a small shrub that yields a red dye (also called African sandalwood), as well as hand-spun yarn. There are supplementary weft-float patterns in local indigo-dyed yarn and imported white machine-spun cotton. It was lent by John Danford in 1964 and purchased in 1975.
