This apparatus was introduced by J.S.Haldane and was used to determine the carbon dioxide content in the mixed venous tissue in patients with lung dieases. This example consists of a wooden cabinet with double-facing doors; the apparatus inside is affixed to an L-shaped piece of wood which can be removed separately from the cabinet. The apparatus is made up of glass container, tubing and taps; one container is approximately half-full of water. The top of the cabinet opens to reveal a small compartment containing a Douglas Bag (which collected expired air from the patient), a pair of small metal scissors, and a small unknown item with a coiled spring. 'Ward 6' is written in blue ink on the underside of the compartment lid and the logo 'Aimer' is stamped on the top of the lid and on one of the cabinet doors. There is also a brown leather handle on the top of the lid.
