The Clent Hills are an area of natural beauty and a popular walking spot near Stourbridge on the outskirts of Birmingham. From the top of the hills on a clear day it is possible to see the Worcestershire plain and Severn Valley to the west and to the east the hills of Shropshire as far as the Welsh borders. Hewitt creates an enchanting patch-work blanket effect by laying areas of flat unmixed colour straight onto the board using a palette knife. The outlines of the fields are traced in a dark black/brown which results in a grid-like composition made up of sludgy browns, and various shades of olive and leafy green. Two small white cottages can also be made out, sheltered amongst a clump of trees.
