An instrument for performing tensile tests on materials. The test sample is mounted in appropriate jaws and then stretched by turning a handle that drives a lead screw. The fixed end of the sample is attached to a beam that bends slightly and causes a column of mercury to rise in a capillary tube by an amount proportional to the tensile force acting on the sample. By tracking by hand the meniscus of the mercury a chart is plotted on a rotating drum yielding a force-extension graph for the sample.
There are seven interchangeable beams calibrated for maximum forces from 62.5 lb to 2 ton.
There are a number of accessories BIRRC-P0671.1-6 for preparing and mounting different kinds of samples, together with a calibration certificate and instruction book.
