Boots wall-mounted wooden first aid box with 5 inner compartments and instructions for treatment of minor injuries mounted inside front cover. This first aid kit was used in a factory or industrial setting where injuries from heavy machinery, chemicals, and sharp equipment were real possibilities. The instructions read “Factory Department Home Office”. The Factory Department (established 1844) of the Home Office was responsible for inspecting factories and the working conditions of employees (including sanitary conditions). Contents of box includes arm sling, bandages, forceps, scissors, tourniquet, eye shade, weighing apparatus and sling for babies (contents kept in store).
