Printed newspaper cutting of 'The preservation of Sutton Park' taken from a meeting at the Town Hall, objecting to the new unsightly fences pand the cutting down of trees. The opinions of prominent residents, including Wilkinson W H are printed. He argued that there was no real basis for the two lines of defence made by the Park Committee that the trees they had already cut down were in a partial state of decay and that in several years' time would be dangerous and that for every tree cut, they had planted several young ones. The cut trees were fine, beautiful trees which would have lasted for centuries, and that the saplings would take many years to grow and could never attain the growth of the removed trees as the atmosphere was not as pure as three of four centuries ago. Also, that the young trees were not planted sufficiently deep to grow to noble proportions. Others who similarly spoke against the new actions of the Park Committee included Mr. J. Cadbury. At the top of the cut-out is 'Sutton Park Daily Post April 2/94. Underneath this, the end of another article is crossed out. Inside the envelope WBHERB.WHW.DOC.44. |
