Portrait of William Sands Cox, surgeon and teacher. Founder of the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery in 1828, and the Queen's Hospital, Birmingham, 1840. By his energies and fundraising the school became the Queen's College, gaining its Royal Charter in 1843. He was Principal of Queen's College, 1858-9. Painted by J. Pardon.
