Mural based on Hausa wall decorations recorded by the artist in or near Zaria, Northern Nigeria. The tile is Hausa for 'decorations'. Expanatory diagram displayed next to it. A0860c depicts diagram, first two images are both part of 'a'.

1 - Triangular motifs from an anonymous wall painting in Kaduna, c.1960
2- Relief motif derived from the Hausa Knot (dagi) and incorporating a protective verse in Arabic, 'God is the best of helpers'. Excecuted by Alhaji Haruna dan Buhari, sarkin magini (head builder) on a court official's house in Zaria, c.1961.

8 - Kunkuru (tortoise) motif by Mallam Jibrilu dan Abubakar, sarkin magini (c.1959-70) on a merchant's house in Zaria c1944.
