After Kavadh I was desposed, Zamasp was elected by the nobles as Shahanshah to be Kavadh's replacement - unlike Kavadh, Zamasp was a conventional adherent of Zoroastrianism as approved by, while Kavadh had been a proponent of Mazdakism. Zamasp ruled for two years before Kavadh returned with an army, Zamasp abdicated in favour of his brother. Zamasp spent the rest of his life in Persian Armenia, fighting the Khazars on behalf of his brother. |
