Alexios became emperor of Trebizond on the death of his father, John II in 1297. As a youth, he was under the instruction of his maternal uncle, the Byzantine Emperor at Constantinople, Andronikos II. When he died in 1330, he was succeeded by his son, Andronikos III. |
