Flavius Victor was the son of Magnus Maximus, who was declared emperor by the troops in 383 in oppostion to Gratian, who was defeated by Maximus and subsequently killed. Victor was raised to the rank of co-emperor shortly after the death of Gratian, having himself recieved recognition from the Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius I. Lots of coins were struck in Victor's name, promoting him as Maximus's successor, however, Theodosius turned on Maximus and defeated him in 388, following Maximus's surrender to Theodosius both Maximus and Victor were executed and subjected to a damnatio memoriae. |
