|
Shiroe, a son of Khusrau II, took the name Kavad when he succeeded his father as Sasanian Shahanshah in 628. Kavad's rise to power was brutal, as he had all of his brothers and half-brothers murdered in front of their captive father, who was then himself blinded and put to death. Kavad did not long outlast his father, however, succumbing to plague months after the massacre of most of his male relatives. Kavad was succeeded by his seven-year-old son, Artashir III. |
