Agrippina minor was Augusta of Rome in her lifetime from AD 50, having become Empress through her marriage to her uncle Claudius the previous year. Through her first marriage she was mother to the Emperor Nero, and both Claudius and Nero issued coins in Agrippina's name. She was also a great-granddaughter of Augustus, a great-niece of Tiberius and a sister of Caligula. She had been exiled by her brother, restored and married but later denounced by her uncle, and supposedly murdered by her son. |
