Constantine was a younger son of the Emperor Romanos I Lekapenos, and raised with his older brother, Stephen Lekapenos, to the rank of co-emperor by their father in 924. Unlike their eldest brother Christopher, however, Stephen and Constantine were never raised above their co-emperor and brother-in-law, Constantine VII. In 944 they rebelled and deposed their father, but were in turn deposed by Constantine VII, being expelled to the same monastery as their father, before being separated again. |
