Peroz I, sometimes also written Firuz I, was the son of Yazdgird II. After Yazdgird's death in 457, Peroz's brother, Hormazd III became Shahanshah. Supposedly fearing for his life, Peroz fled to the Hephthelites in the East; returning with a Hephthelite host of warriors, Peroz took the throne from his brother in 459. Despite their early help, however, Peroz ended up at war with the Hephthelites, who had invaded Persian lands and against whom Peroz died in battle in 484. After his death, his brother, Valkash, was declared Shahanshah.
